Grade 3 HarmonyWelcome! The following pages summarize basic models for writing music in four parts, that is, for an S.A.T.B. texture, covering the part writing material for the R.C.M.'s Grade 3 Harmony syllabus. Our intention is to provide supplemental material for the student, rather than a substitute for formal classroom or private study. The presentation is quite condensed, and assumes the student has had several years of classical training on their instrument, as well as strong skills in music rudiments. The current R.C.M. syllabus for 2006-7 identifies Harmony 3 as a required co-requisite for Grade 9 practical exams. Its recommended prerequisite is Grade 2 Rudiments. We hope that all students of part writing will find the following material useful in their studies. |
